This Map Of Sunrise And Sunset Times Under Permanent Standard Time Is Going Viral

Donald Trump once again voiced support for ending daylight saving time, calling it “inconvenient” and “very costly.”

According to the AP, some health groups agree. The American Medical Association and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine say ending time changes and staying on standard time would benefit our health because it better matches the sun and human biology.

Despite bipartisan support for making daylight saving time permanent, no proposal has successfully passed through Congress.

The Sunshine Protection Act was actually passed by the House of Representatives in 2021, which would make daylight saving time permanent in the US. That means there would be later sunrises and sunsets during the months of winter when we currently follow standard time.

With this renewed (and random) spotlight on daylight saving time, Chief Meteorologist Damon Lane of KOCO news in Oklahoma shared what summer would look like if we stayed on standard time in cities across the US:

Boston would see sunrises in June around 4 AM and sunsets around 7:30 PM.

LA would see a 4:41 sunrise and a 7:07 sunset.

And Seattle would see sunrise a little past 4 AM, and the sun would set a little past 8.

Overall, it seems like sunrises will be SUPER early and sunsets would be slightly earlier than we’re currently used to.

People have a lot of feelings about this!

Morning people love it.

“For those of us who work the early shift, this looks amazing,” one person said.

“People hate to admit it but this is the most natural daily rhythm for human beings,” another person chimed in.

And this obvious morning person said, “This looks great to me.”

Other people hate the idea suggesting we stay on permanent daylight saving time.

“Hell no. Advance the clocks in March and never touch them again,” one person said.

“We don’t need the sun coming up at 4-something in the morning,” another person complained.

And this person ominously warned, “Be careful what you wish for.”

It seems like it’s the early risers vs. the night owls on this one, soooo I’m curious: Where do you stand?
