An old, run-down Bedford Bus has been transformed into a funky weekender that also helped the owners earn a tidy profit.
According to realestate.com.au, Sarah and her husband David purchased the dilapidated bus for $6000 thinking it would be a fun project.
The only problem was, the bus was full of rust, the lights didn’t work and it didn’t have any brakes.
Overwhelmed by the scale of what needed to be done, they soon gave up on the idea of restoring it.
However, with the cost of holding onto it burning a hole in their pockets, the couple wanted to sell it but no buyers were interested.
Given that they lived in Tumby Bay on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula, an increasingly popular tourist destination, they decided to transform it into accommodation that someone could rent out as a weekender.
The couple only had a budget of $7000 for the project, and while it was a small space it was clear it was going to take a lot to turn it around.
The lime green bus, which was once driven around Australia selling soap, was repainted aqua with a white roof to create a coastal feel.
They also added a deck with a small barbecue and an outdoor bath with a fire pit beside it.
The ceiling was also painted white to create a sense of more space, while vertical panels were installed on the walls to give the illusion of height and painted charcoal for a contemporary and cosy feel.
The plumbing and electrics were also replaced, along with a fold-down table and strip lighting.
While Sarah and Tom were originally hoping to get $15,000 for the bus, which they named Bubbles of Bedford, they ended up selling it for $30,000.
