Milan expected to formally approach Man Utd for Rashford

AC Milan are expected to formally approach Manchester United over the signing of forward Marcus Rashford.

Milan adviser – and Rashford’s former team-mate – Zlatan Ibrahimovic has spoken publicly about wanting to speak to Rashford about a move.

Borussia Dortmund are also interested in the player but it is thought a move could prove too problematic for them due to the wages. However, United have maintained a positive relationship with Dortmund having loaned Jadon Sancho to them last season.

Sancho’s move worked for all parties – he performed well for Dortmund and it is understood United recovered all of his wages during his spell there.

Rashford’s camp have spoken to a number of European clubs to explore the conditions of a deal. As it stands, it is believed United’s preference remains a straight loan, if they are to allow him to leave.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was asked about Marcus Rashford’s future at the club following his exclusion from the FA Cup squad and reiterated that he has ‘to make choices’ for the team

Rashford was once again left out of the matchday squad for Sunday’s FA Cup 3rd round tie at Arsenal, which United won on penalties.

When asked if Rashford had played his final game for the club United boss Ruben Amorim said “I don’t know. We will see”.

While United accept they will have to pay a substantial portion of Rashford’s wages, they will look into incentivising the structure to ensure the deal works for them.

Rashford prioritised over Walker – Why can’t Milan sign both?

Rashford is Milan’s priority over Kyle Walker in the January transfer window, according to Sky in Italy.

Pep Guardiola confirmed over the weekend that Walker and his representatives are “exploring” his options after informing outgoing sporting director Txiki Begiristain that he wants to move abroad. According to Sky in Italy, AC Milan sounded out the defender some time ago in case Fikayo Tomori left the club, but his transfer was blocked by the arrival of new manager Sergio Conceicao.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that Kyle Walker has told the club he would like explore a move abroad for a ‘new experience’

It remains to be seen whether this time could be different and whether the Rossoneri will try to land his signature with Bayern Munich having also been interested in the past.

Milan can only register one English player due to current Serie A regulations.

Per season, Serie A clubs can register up to three non-EU players and one extra from the UK or Albania if they have no current non-EU players in their squad.

If they already have one or two non-EU players, they can bring in a maximum of two more non-EU players.

If they have more than two non-EU players, they can buy two more non-EU players but one of them must have played in his national team in the preceding 12 months.

Milan could only have bought two new non-EU players this season due to the number of spots already filled.

They did that in the summer with the signings of Emerson Royal from Tottenham and Strahinja Pavlovic from Red Bull Salzburg. This means Milan only have one extra spot available for a UK (or Albanian) player.

Even if they sell a non-EU player, they still cannot sign another UK-based player. It is one slot per registration period (season).

South American football expert Tim Vickery provides insight into 17-year-old left-back Diego Leon from Paraguay, who Manchester United have agreed to sign – after only making his debut in August!

Latest from Sky Sports News’ Dharmesh Sheth:

Diego Leon will have his Manchester United medical today ahead of finalising a pre-contract agreement for the summer.

Leon arrived in Manchester yesterday.

Once the deal is finalised, the 17-year-old will return to his current club Cerro Porteno in Paraguay for the rest of the season.

The left-back/left wing-back position is a problematic one for United given the injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia over the last 18 months.

As a result, they continue to keep an eye on Nuno Mendes’ situation at Paris Saint-Germain.

Talks over a new contract in Paris have so far failed to find a resolution and his current deal is up next summer.

Relations with PSG are said to be good after United signed Manuel Ugarte in August.

Betis and Olympiakos enquire about Antony

Real Betis and Olympiacos have both made enquiries to United for Antony.

The Brazil winger was an unused substitute in United’s FA Cup third-round penalty shootout victory over Arsenal on Sunday.

United will consider offers for Antony – with the most likely deal being a loan and Betis are in the market for a winger having just sold Assane Diao to Como.
