Hopewell Police make arrests in unrelated shooting, hit-and-run incidents

HOPEWELL – Police have made two arrests in a recent shooting and a hit-and-run.

Marlone Ramone Peterson, 47, of Hopewell has been charged with discharging a firearm in a public place and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the Aug. 4 shooting of a man at Thomas Rolfe Court. The victim had been shot in the mouth and was taken to Chippenham Medical Center in Richmond with a non life-threatening injury.

Peterson was arrested Aug. 15, according to a police statement, and is being held at Riverside Regional Jail in Prince George County on a secured bond.

In an unrelated matter, police also announced the arrest of Garrett Les Horton, 26, of Hopewell, in an Aug. 15 hit-and-run at the intersection of Arlington Road and Winston Churchill Drive. Police alleged that Horton was driving a dark pick-up truck when he struck a moped rider. Witnesses said the truck fled the scene and was heading toward Prince George County.

The rider suffered serious injuries and had to be airlifted to a Richmond hospital.

Horton was arrested the next day. He has been charged with hit-and-run, aggravated assault and driving on a suspended or revoked license, and is being held without bond at Riverside.
