Edwin Arroyave is offering an update on how he’s doing amid his divorce from Teddi Mellencamp.
“I’m doing as good as I could be doing, and just getting ready for the holidays and focusing on the things that I can control and all that other stuff kind of figures itself out as it figures itself out,” Arroyave, 47, said on the Wednesday, November 27, episode of iHeartRadio’s “The Eds” podcast. “But I’ve always been big on just focusing on what you can control, and all that other stuff you can’t control, you just leave that up to God. And that’s what gives you peace.”
“I think when you try to control things that you can’t control is when you rob yourself of the inner peace,” he continued. “So I’ve been intentional with that part and staying in faith and focusing on the children and stuff like that.”
Arroyave — who shares Slate, 12, Cruz, 10, and Dove, 4, with Mellencamp, 43 — admitted that “it’s obviously difficult times” before adding, “We do what we always do, which is you continue to push forward. Life’s gonna throw some curveballs at you and you just gotta continue to push and things have a way to always figure themselves out within time.”
Podcast cohost Eddie Judge said he wishes both Arroyave and Mellencamp “the best,” noting that the timing “couldn’t be any worse.” Arroyave agreed, adding, “Timing sucks.”
Arroyave, who reminisced on the first time he met Teddi around the holidays, explained that the family’s Thanksgiving festivities will be at her father John Mellencamp’s house.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum broke the news of her and Arroyave’s divorce via Instagram on November 2. “After a great deal of care and consideration, I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce,” Teddi wrote at the time. “My priority is my children and ensuring that every care is taken with their privacy and wellbeing throughout this new chapter.”
She continued: “Making a public statement is not something I wanted to do, but in an effort to protect my family from undue speculation and rumors, I felt being open, honest and vulnerable was the best path forward.”
In court documents obtained by Us Weekly, Teddi listed her and Arroyave’s date of separation as October 20. She cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split and initially asked for sole physical and legal custody of their kids.
Arroyave filed his response to the divorce earlier this month, listing their date of separation as November 1 and seeking joint legal and physical custody of their kids. (Arroyave is also dad to daughter Isabella from a previous relationship.)
In subsequent court docs obtained by Us, Teddi filed to seek joint physical and legal custody of their children.
“Edwin and Teddi have always wanted to keep this amicable for the children,” a source told Us. While one insider said that “Teddi and Edwin both knew each other were filing — it was not a surprise,” a separate source claimed Arroyave was “blindsided” when she filed.
Us confirmed earlier this month that Teddi had an extramarital affair with her horse trainer, Simon Schroeder, months before she filed for divorce from Arroyave.
“Simon and Teddi had a thing several months ago, but it’s not still happening,” a source exclusively told Us, alleging that Arroyave had also previously been unfaithful.
“Teddi and Edwin had been working on the problems of their marriage, despite his past indiscretions,” the insider added. “They stayed in the marriage for the sake of the kids. Teddi isn’t excusing her behavior, but this was the first and only time she strayed outside of the marriage and says there’s two sides to the story. They are both to blame.”
Teddi addressed her affair with Schroeder in a social media post on Sunday, November 24. “The only person who can change your life is you. We have 2 options, pretend to be a victim or stand up and fight for yourself. We all deserve peace and happiness,” Teddi wrote. “I have cried and mourned. I have taken accountability and apologized for things I have done wrong. Now, I have given myself permission to grow and thrive.”
“There are 3 sides to every story. How can I stand up and show up for the people that do matter?” she continued. “This is called being an adult. This is what saying with my full chest means.”
In the comments section of her post, Teddi denied rumors that she was with Schroeder while his wife was giving birth. She wrote, “Nope. Not true.”
