DJ Moore was absent from the sideline during CCU’s home loss to the University of Louisiana Lafayette on Oct. 19, 2024.
Moore typically dressed for home games alongside the four other quarterbacks on CCU’s roster and did pre-game throwing drills with his position group. But No. 7 did not appear during Coastal’s 34-24 loss to the Ragin’ Cajuns.
Coastal Carolina Head Coach Tim Beck declined to comment on Moore’s status after that game but has now said that the freshman thrower is gone from the program. Beck said Moore was no longer part of the CCU football team during his weekly press conference Nov. 13, 2024.
Beck declined to say why Moore was no longer with the team, but the quarterback was arrested two days before Coastal’s game on Oct. 19, 2024. According to online bookings, at 4:07 p.m. Oct. 17, 2024, Coastal Carolina Police arrested Moore for simple possession of marijuana and carrying or displaying firearms in public buildings. Moore was released Oct. 18, 2024, on a $2,115 bond.
Moore could not be reached for comment.
The Horry County Sheriff’s website listed the freshman’s name as Doran Rashand Moore. He was 18 at the time.
According to the Horry County 15th Judicial Circuit Public Index, Moore faces charges for carrying or displaying firearms in public buildings or adjacent areas, school property. The case is currently pending.

Moore also faces a traffic violation for unlawful use of a license or fraudulent application for a license.
Despite entering a crowded quarterback room at CCU, Moore was a highly sought-after recruit coming out of Jacksonville, Florida. Schools like Appalachian State, Tennessee and the University of Louisville also gave offers to the former three-star recruit offers, according to 247Sports.
