Channel 9 crews observed officers inspecting a red SUV late Wednesday night after the shooting.

At the time, CMPD said someone left the SUV running while visiting residents in the area. The person told police that when they returned to their vehicle, they found someone inside of it.

The two people then began to argue and shots were fired. The person who was found inside the SUV died, according to police.

Major Dave Johnson spoke with Channel 9 about the importance of not leaving your car running.

“Especially in a populated area. It’s cold, and I know people want to leave their cars running, but you’re just inviting problems if you do that. It’s actually illegal to leave your car running, so it’s always a good reminder,” Johnson explained.

CMPD said they are not actively looking for a suspect in this case. However, all parties involved are being questioned by homicide detectives.

An arrest has been made and we are asking police about charges in this case.
