Attention, pop culture aficionados: More than 1,800 pieces of rare celebrity memorabilia are going up for auction today, with bids already going down online.
Superfans of star-adjacent treasures are virtually lining up to get their hands on seemingly endless fashions from the realm of film, television and music that appear in Propstore’s Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction.
Better yet, this particular event places a special emphasis on powerful women who’ve made history both on screen and off, with memorabilia pulled from the wardrobes of award-winning actors and singers from Elizabeth Taylor and Jennifer Aniston to Billie Eilish and Lady Gaga.
There’s also the — oh baby, baby — pink-and-white pleather look from Britney Spears’ … Baby One More Time tour. Fun fact: Spears originally designed the entire tour wardrobe in collaboration with designer Gia Ventola, including the look that’s currently up for auction.
More Y2K-era finds were plucked from Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment circa Sex and the City. As SATC purists can attest, Bradshaw’s most contested relationship isn’t with men, it’s with technology, which makes the answering machine that she consistently screened voicemails on (we’re looking at you, Mr. Big!) particularly appealing to fans.
To complete the moment, the retro electronic also comes with Bradshaw’s signature lavender floral-embroidered bedspread, which has been lovingly autographed by Sarah Jessica Parker herself.
Another double whammy going under the hammer will tempt Friends and Star Wars loyalists alike. It’s the Princess Leia costume that Rachel Green (Aniston) wore in season 3 to surprise Ross (David Schwimmer) in the bedroom when they were first dating (and before they were on a break).
As Maegen Hensley, the director of asset management at Propstore, exclusively told Us Weekly: “It’s one you can put on display in your living room.” Underscoring the significance of the costume, which marks the first time it’s ever been on the auction block, Hensley said: “It’s a spoof on the classically beautiful bikini, but it’s perfectly made for her because it’s bright pink and exactly what you’d think Rachel would wear.”
Royal enthusiasts will feel the same way about the looks seen on Elizabeth Debicki from her turn as Princess Diana in season 5 of The Crown. Most notable is the leopard one-piece swimsuit and matching cover-up that Diana wore while on holiday with Charles (Dominic West) in Italy, where they quarreled about his scheduling conflicts cutting the trip short.
The real-life Princess of Wales wore a similar look with the bold intention of distracting the paparazzi so she could peacefully enjoy her holiday without prying lenses.
Spoiler alert: It worked, and we’re willing to wager that it would be just as convincing if revived in real life.
For a more deliberate festive fashion moment, consider the similarly legendary reindeer jumper from Bridget Jones’s Diary seen on Mr. Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). It would make for the ultimate ensemble to wear to an ugly Christmas sweater party come December. As Bridget said herself in the film, it would be disappointing “not to see [her] favorite reindeer jumper again.”
